DESPEDIDA PARTY FOR TESS (May 6, 2023)

Tessie Valenciano became our member in 2019, but she has been a long-time SUAF friend who attended many of our social gatherings.

She is from Bayawan, Negros Oriental, and immigrated to the U.S. with her family in the mid-1980s. She was a school teacher and a principal back in the Philippines and also taught in the L.A. school district when she came to the U.S. After teaching in L.A. for many years, she retired and moved to San Diego to join her daughter in 2013. Lately, she decided to retire in the Philippines, where she will live with her son and daughter-in-law in their resort by the beach in Basay, Neg. Or.

Tess is a wonderful cook, especially of native Filipino dishes- her signature dishes being the oh-so-yummy biko with ginger and squash (yes, squash!) and papaya atchara to die for! We will miss you, Tess, and your biko and achara.

We wish you safe travels and a nice life in the Philippines. We hope you visit San Diego someday.
