DONATIONS TO THE VICTIMS OF TYPHOON ODETTE

The Philippines, being in the pathway of typhoons, get hit several times each year. On December 12, 2021, typhoon Odette hit the country with such ferocity that it is considered the second costliest typhoon, second to 2013’s Haiyan. Odette’s damage was estimated to be USD 1.2 billion, and Negros was one of the islands that got badly damaged.

Silliman University, through its Continuing Calamity Response Program (CCRP), provided aid to the victims in the nearby towns. The  University distributed water, food packs, and rice to the victims and offered psycho-social and rebuilding assistance. Helping the administration are the SU church, student government, alumni, and friends.

Thus, when Silliman called SUACONA for assistance, SUAFSD decided to participate. Members approved in its January 2022 meeting $1,000 to donate to the typhoon victims through Silliman’s CCRP relief program.
