Persimmon Picking -2019

PERSIMMON PICKING

It’s persimmons season! Persimmons show up in October and November, and California is where most of them grow in the US. The changing temperature from warm to cool helps transform the color of the fruit from green to bright orange. Persimmons are versatile fruit; they can be used in salads, baked into loaves of spiced bread, or eaten as is – they are delicious in every stage of ripeness.

So, on Nov. 8, 2019, Fely Tan Narvaez organized a field trip to Fuyu Farms at 32829 Lilac Rd, Valley Center, CA 92082. Nothing is more satisfying than picking that yummy fruit off the branch. It evokes the hunter-gatherer deep inside each one of us. After the picking, as usual, we concluded the day by having a meal at the Food Court at the Escondido Mall.
